Tembotrione is a member of β-triketone family of herbicides that is utilized for grass and broadleaf weed control during early to mid-post-emergence of field.

Atrazine was the primary tool available for the control of weeds in maize. Being a pre-emergence, it provides effective control of some of the annual grasses and broadleaf weeds, but for complex weed flora, maize crop needs some post-emergence herbicide. The efficiency of tembotrione for post-emergence weed control in maize is very high.
